“Drawing down the moon” – An Exhibition of nature based works
Selina di Girolamo was born in 1969. She studied Art and Design at Amersham Art School and graduated from Hornsey School of Art at Middlesex University with a B.A.Honours in Fine Art in 1994.
My last one woman show at Arts Forum 1 in 2007 mainly focused on mixed media collages inspired during life modelling classes with Rod Harman at Hastings College. In this exhibition there was also a small series of pastels inspired by foreign landscapes. This year’s exhibition is a continuation of that later journey. (more…)
Driven by patterns in physical phenomena and mathematics that conceive the natural world, Max produces optical candy that stimulates and attracts the relationship between chaos and reality.
An international artist, previously only known in small circles for his grand commission murals, he is branching out into the public view with a kinetic mix of multidimensional bright acrylics and wiremesh, reality remixing, and highgain displays of conceptual infinity.
Surnames A-L, 8 – 16 June.
Surnames M-Z, 16 – 23 June.
Each year the Forum hosts a members’ show. We have opened a list in AF1 for members wishing to take part. Members are entitled to submit one work free of charge. We do, however, ask for a donation towards the cost of the private view. We have posted instructions on the website (see www.hastingsartsforum.co.uk/get-involved ) on how to prepare work for hanging.
Artists’ statements:
Elaine Short – tapestry weaver. After previous experience with painting and hand-made jewellery, Elaine turned to weaving and taught herself traditional hand-loom techniques, producing woven wall-hangings and rugs. She has found that this medium offers virtually unlimited creative possibilities, combining colour, form, texture and three-dimensional effects. (more…)
Kim Thrower is exhibiting his paintings on the theme of cupcakes in ONE Sandwich Bar at 1, London Road, St Leonards. The show runs until the end of May. ONE opened in late Autumn, 2009 and has been a welcome addition to the the regeneration of central St Leonards. The Forum supplies ONE with a changing exhibition each month, mainly on the theme of colour and abstraction. This exhibition is a change to the theme, but is eminently suitable for a sandwich bar and tea-shop.
A talented group of a dozen photographers from Sussex Coast College Hastings are exhibiting at Hastings Arts Forum as the finale to their NCFE certificate evening class.
Work on show will include Karen Rooney’s reportage of Lunsford Farm in Pett, Sin Bozkurt’s images from Burlesque clubs and Simon Hookey’s project documenting the lives of Hastings fishermen. Shereen Turner has turned her lens on Hastings & Bexhill Rugby Football Club whilst Steve Boydell’s work follows the volunteer coastguards based at Rye Harbour.

Art on the Beach
An exhibition of painting and drawings by Katherine Reekie
Many artists have drawn inspiration from the seashore. With the impending arrival of the Jerwood Gallery to the Stade in Hastings, the beach will not only be a subject matter for artists but also a venue for art.
Local artist Katherine Reekie has produced a series of surreal images in response to the concept of art physically being on the beach.

If a picture’s worth a thousand words…
If a picture’s worth a thousand words… presents the extraordinary results of a radical programme of professional development for artists with severe learning disabilities and or complex needs. Pioneered by Project Art Works, its ‘mentoring studios’ approach provides an opportunity for individuals with complex needs to develop their work through intensive studio practice alongside an artist mentor. This highly specialised investment has produced a significant and surprising body of work, exposing that which is beyond words: the power and revelation of visual language.
This exhibition is in two parts. AF1 hosts the “taster” for SE Open Studios (where artists in the South East open their studios to visitors on the first two weekends of June). see http://www.seos-art.org/ . In AF2 you can find artists, not participating in the official SEOS programme but who welcome visits by arrangement and at other times of the year.
