Two Private Views

Posted 9:15 am June 25, 2010

We have two private views this week on different days. Both galleries will be open during private views.

In AF1, Max Lovenheim Irwin is giving a private view on Friday 25 June at 6.30 – 8.30 .

In AF2, Sue Jones is giving a private view on Saturday, 26 June at 2 – 4.30pm.

(This timing is by special arrangement).

AF 1 Max exhibits acrylics, some with wire mesh worked in.

It is always interesting to see the work of artists who try to extend the boundaries of their chosen discipline. When first asked to explain his work, Max referred to “mathematics” and “patterns”, but as  conversation developed it was apparent that he was exploring new forms. Max has a busy professional life in Computers, but finds relaxation in his art.

Max says : “My art is like looking at nature through a different set of eyes and being able to see the World in a different state.  Imagine looking at a piece of moss on a rock and then imagine the view of a forest seen through an aeroplane window and compare both images.” – or using an example from his exhibition “Look at a shell on the beach and then compare it with the Milky Way.”

Max’s work is largely acrylics with some images in mixed media. He will also be showing a video throughout  Saturday 26  and Sunday 27 June and at 2 pm on Sunday he will give a gallery talk explaining his work.

AF 2 Exhibition entitled “Mirage”. Sue Jones exhibits pastels, a few  of which are mixed in with other media. The images reflect Sue’s travels in Cyprus, Spain and Italy

“ …..Vibrant colour, contrast, shape, atmosphere and pre-conscious images play an important part in my work and hopefully combined with imagination the whole is more than the sum of the parts. The feelings of sensual serenity created in me by these once imagined landscapes is also influenced by an awareness of the history, struggles and labours of the local people.

Escaping to the peace of natural spaces has consistently provided me with sanctuary from stress, especially when I was working in London as a community worker. So when I became ill I instinctively knew what would be healing for me, even though the journey itself is challenging…..” Extract from Sue’s statement
