Bob Farquhar, “Pros and Cons” in AF1 14 – 28 Jul.
Bob has spent some 32 years in prison, where he learnt to paint with Christine Berg, a former pupil of Kokoschka. During his ‘time’, Bob managed to stay ‘on the run’ for two years, during which time he was looked after by the King’s Cross girls. Bob is a Forum member now living in Sussex. For more images see:

Zoom. (the painters’ section of Zoom) in AF2, 14 – 28 Jul. There are nine painters from the Zoom group, who are exhibiting in AF2. All are, or recently were, students .
Zoom is a local collective of artists, photographers and sculptors based in Hastings. The members exhibiting here are all painters, have a strong visual response to the world around them and a probably irrational urge to share it with others.
Most of the painters of Zoom have come together here at Hastings Arts Forum to produce a distinctively diverse collection of artwork. Our choice of media are just as varied, ranging from pencil through acrylic, oil, pastel, batik, mixed media collages, woodblocks and etchings. Some of us approach the subject by painting and drawing what we see and others wait and see where the creative process takes them.
Members taking part in this exhibition are:
Louise Etgart
Sandra Everley
Marie Ford
Denise Griffiths
Lydia Holtom
Ben Passmore
Kim Sherress
Hayley Small
Barbara Williams
All participating members are up and coming artists with a connection to Hastings College. Ben Passmore has graduated with a Fine Art degree this year. Lydia Holtom, Kim Sherress, Sandra Everley and Marie Ford are all Fine Art degree students. Louise Etgart has completed her Foundation Course and is beginning her Fine Art degree. Hayley Small also completed a Foundation Course and Barbara Williams and Denise Griffiths are continuing their studies in Fine Art at Hastings College as part-time students.

Nick Weekes posts :
Thismachine is a musical group that doesn’t care to fit in with the industrialised ideology of music making. They are performing a large scale improvisation in AF1 on Saturday 24th July as part of a season of performances called “A – Series”
“A-series time has no planned framework ; thismachine is exploring impromptu sound as art and will be improvising works for 5-6 hours per exhibition: other than that, no predetermined musical forms, modes or other rules apply.”
The “A-series” refers to the work of JME McTaggart “The Unreality of Time” that sets out to demonstrate that time is an illusion. Further info on the internet : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Unreality_of_Time
What to expect? Three musicians nestled in separate corners of the gallery (possibly)out of sight of each other improvising and reflecting in the gallery space as it floats through time.

Sun, 18 Jul - ‘Erasing David’ (12A) UK 2010 + Q&A with director, David Bond and Phil Booth (NO2ID). Synopsis below.
Once the bastion of freedom and civil liberties, the UK is now one of the most advanced surveillance societies in the world – ranked third after Russia and China. The average UK adult is now registered on over 700 databases and is caught daily on one of the 4 million CCTV cameras located on nearly every street corner in the country. Increasingly monitored, citizens are being turned into suspects. But if you’ve got nothing to hide, surely there’s nothing to fear?
When David receives a letter informing him that his daughter is among 25 million residents whose details have been lost by the government’s Child Benefit Office, he begins a journey that will see him hounded across Europe.
David soon discovers some alarming truths about what the government and private companies already know about ordinary citizens. He meets people who have been caught in the crossfire of the database state and have had their lives shattered.
’As his concern grows, he makes a life-changing decision. He will leave his pregnant wife and child behind and put himself under surveillance for thirty days. The UK’s top Private Investigators are hired to discover everything they can about him and his family – and track David down as heverything they can about him and his family – and track David down as he attempts to vanish. Is it still possible to live a private, anonymous life in the UK? everything they can about him and his family – and track David down as he attempts to vanish.
