About me

Hi I am John Perry French.

My artwork has been focused on the natural patterns which make our lives so real. Fractal geometry is what makes the trees, plants, clouds, oceans, galaxies and us possible. It’s everywhere if you just look around you will see them. I don’t know the reason why this is but I know that everything in this Universe works with these patterns. My work is based on trying to make paintings on the cycles, rhythms and patterns that existence but are not so easy to see. So I would take something like the cycles of a day and see the patterns time makes in that 24 hours. Like snow drops, no two drops are the same and this applies here but each day travels the same path. Starting from midnight moving through the hours and seeing the day slowly appear and then slowly retreat back to it starting point. Or a seed which turns into plant that will produce speeds at the peak of its cycle.
My work as moved towards consciousness, what makes consciousness? Are we really just inside ours brains or is the brain some sort of receiver that sits our soul inside our bodies. The reason I am thinking this is because everything is going back and forward. Just like a vibration, so I would like to believe we are part of a comic consciousness that has created this whole universe just so it can have roles which lead to who knows where. Maybe when we die we return to the bigger picture where our egos or the person we have been shaped into disappears. The grounds for this way of thinking is theat I took Dimethyltryptamine which is known as DMT about ten year ago. I didn’t know anything about it then but once I had smoked it; I started to dissolve, my ego went and I travelled to a place that is really hard to describe because it not of this dimension. The thing I did notice was the patterns seem to be fractal. I was only aware of the moment nothing else could or would have mattered. Most people who have taken it report the same sort thing. I like the idea that we are life travelers going form one life to the next and fate, family, people, etc shape the person we become in that life. If you think about how big the universe is; then we could be born on other worlds. Seeing everything in this universe repeats, then there must be millions of Earth like worlds out in the universe! I am also very much interested in Jack Fresco vision The Venus Project and Peter Joseph's The Zeitgeist Movement. If we change our monetary system to a resource system and started to look after our home ( Earth ) and let everyone live without greed but plenty for all, we would be a much better race than what we are now, letting the greedy few rules over us, like we are their cash cows.
