About me
"Displaced" is a personal projectexplaining the experience of dislocation from one's natural environment. Every year many refugees are involuntarily uprooted and relocate toan alien environment.My father spent his childhood as a refugee, having to flee overnight to a foreign land, where the language and culture were alien to him.
I have chosen to express this sense of displacement using surrealist influenced juxtapositions of symbolic objects. My principal influences are Max Ernst, Magritte and Man RayMari Mahr. In style the images are influenced by the vanitas still lives which used symbols to express morbid themes. 'Vanitas' in Latin means 'emptiness' .
