About me
Being outside revitalises my spirits and stimulates my desire to paint. I typically begin a painting on the river in my kayak or in my rowing boat, where ever I start it's as close to the water as I can get. The second stage of the painting happens away from the original location and takes on a life of its own, with no references to distract me my memories and imagination are given room to expand the subject of my painting into a place of mystery and drama. The ambiguity of my paintings time and location is a central part of the works character along with the quality of the surface and the gestural marks incised into the paint.
