About me

I work across a variety of media; live art, installation and lens based media. The main themes which run throughout my work are: stasis and movement; time and place; classification and knowledge. My particular interest is the complex relationship between culture and nature. Working in the UK and abroad I exhibit in solo shows and collaborative projects. Since 1996 collaborations have been mainly in the field of dance and movement.
The perception of nature evokes feelings of tangible fear to vehement protection, to complete indifference. For the past twenty years I have practised tree surgery; working predominately in urban environments. This close relationship with living nature on a physical and academic level is a rich source from which many of my artistic ideas are developed. Furthermore, my video work with movement artists has given me an insight into themes which run throughout my work - a sense of place, stillness, movement and time. Working directly with nature, I am particularly interested in our complex relationship to it; physically, intellectually and subconsciously. My art practice is mostly site specific, using live art, installation, video and photography. Working in the UK and abroad I exhibit in solo shows and collaborative projects. Since 1996 collaborations have been mainly in the field of dance and movement, including performances within the 'Spring Loaded' season at The Place; the Greenwich Festival; Sadler's Wells Mosaics and festivals in Sydney and Melbourne. I have a BA First Class Honours in Photography(1998) and in 2002 and 2003 I was awarded research funding for video installation within The Artist Programme at The Chisenhale Dance Space. In 2004/2005 I completed a one year residency at The Florence Trust Studios in Islington, London.
