Artist Statement

Working mainly with the medium of painting and drawing I create a verbal-visual language that includes elements of eastern and western poetic expression. Calligraphic mark making and printing designs combined into a multicultural construct that portray a fluid reading of gesture, colour and subtle forms into the canvas and/or the paper. Contextually, this conveys historical and contemporary issues that address art history, globalisation and transnationalism.

Lately, as part of my MA in Visual and Transnational art, I have been researching the process of cultural exchange and multiculturalism influence on western visual art. This research project is about 'locating' the eastern approach to calligraphy and abstraction within the historiography of Brazilian concrete poetry.
