Selina Di Girolamo. As you will have learned from the special notice sent out earlier this week, Selina has now been moved to Hurstwood Park Hospital, Haywards Heath. As at 2pm , Wednesday 22, Selina is waiting for the results of tests before any further decisions can be taken. The family asks that everyone keeps positive and, they add. she receives a lot of encouragement from messages. Selina’s email is selinadigirolamo@darkmother.co.uk The family asks that you pray for Selina especially at 9 am, so that there will be a swell of support.
**** Extraordinary Meeting. An EGM will be held on Sat 8 Jan to ratify the committee’s decision to recommend to the membership a change of status for the Forum. This means the Forum will change from being an unincorporated organisation into a Charity. This is an unanimous committee decision for the reasons elaborated on in the special notice sent out to members by email and sent out by post to members without email.
The Forum is now stable and we must look to our future, which the committee believes is best secured by becoming a charity. It is important that we have a good turn-out for the meeting on 8 Jan as we need to illustrate that this is a ‘membership’ decision with wide ranging support.
Call for “Auction” donations. The Forum is holding its annual auction in support of Funds on Sat 5 Feb 11 at 2.30. An exhibition of items for sale will be on display from 27 Jan – 5 Feb. Jill (and Jack)-in-the-Green 28 April – 3 May. This is another Members’ show. Again, each member is allowed one image, which is suitable for the May Day bank holiday week-end. ‘Jack’ is traditionally associated with Hastings and we were encouraged to receive the support of the ‘Jack’ organisers last year, who were equally pleased to see St Leonards being more engaged in the festival. With five months to go, we would encourage members to think ahead and come up with some really innovative and good entries. Themes may be May Day, ‘Rites of Spring’, Jack-in-the-Green, Jill-in-the-green, motor bikes, Morris dancers, but you may think of other suitable themes. We would love to see the Forum respond with some really new innovative images - and don’t leave it to the last minute.

13 – 25 Jan in AF1 and AF2. Re-Cycling Exhibition, curated by Annie Rae.
Hastings Arts Forum proudly announces it will hold its first recycling exhibition in its two galleries, 13 – 25 January 2011. The exhibition will be curated by Annie Rae, and will include work by 15 of the Forum’s artists. Dress up in your recycled best for the private view.
Annie Rae hopes this exhibition is only the first of a series, exploring imaginative methods needed to re-use materials, which are usually destroyed, dumped or put into landfills. The exhibition has work that is always ingenious and often witty.
The Hastings and Bexhill Wood Recycling Project is playing a major role, providing recycled wood for displaying exhibits and examples of its furniture and designs. Stewart Walton’s original prototype drawings will also be included. Wood comes into many of the contributions, as do other discarded materials. Iain Johnson and Serena Thirkell use discarded metal. Penny Hobson beachcombs and with an eye for colour, arranges objects in several clever ways. Max Lane uses many found and discarded bits and pieces to make small, clever sculptures.
Tim Riddihough, Peter Quinell and Peter Edwards are well known for bringing a smile to those attending Forum exhibitions. Artists working in mixed media include Kim and Renee Thrower, Danny Mooney, Martin O’Neill and Bernard Hoffman.

POETRY…
The Poetry Group will meet in the Forum on Saturday 8 Jan 11. The focus will be on the sonnet. If you wish to know more, you could do worse than google “sonnet” and look at the Wikipedia site. Rose Miller, MPhil, who currently hosts the Buchanan reading group, will give a short informal presentation on the sonnet. A classic example is the Prologue to Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare.
Prologue to Romeo and Juliet.
Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life;
Whose misadventured piteous overthrows
Do with their death bury their parents’ strife.
The fearful passage of their death-mark’d love,
And the continuance of their parents’ rage,
Which, but their children’s end, nought could remove,
is now the two hours’ traffic of our stage;
The which if you with patient ears attend,
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend
